What is respite care?
Wartburg offers short-term respite care in Westchester, NY, to provide caregivers with temporary relief from their duties. Respite stays at our skilled nursing facility range from two to 30 days, with assisted living or skilled nursing services, as needed. We also offer respite care for those with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
What are adult day care programs?
Wartburg adult day care programs for healthy older adults as well as those who are frail or have Alzheimer’s disease or dementia relieve caregivers of their duties during the day, while having their loved ones in a safe, friendly and fun environment, with both social activities and medical care.
What type of activities does the adult day care program offer?
Our adult day care program has a variety of activities. We have several types of exercise programs – all of which are done while seated – including yoga and Zumba Gold. We also offer art classes, bingo and discussion groups. Various entertainers come in throughout the month to share music and dancing.
What adult day care staff is available to assist my loved one?
Our staff consists of certified nursing aides to assist with daily personal care, an RN, an LPN, and recreation leaders as well as a full-time social worker.
What is a typical day like at the adult day care program?
Participants arrive throughout the morning. A hot breakfast is served, and the morning opens with current events and a daily activity review. Throughout the morning there are programs, and a hot lunch is served midday. The afternoon holds entertainment, crafts, and afternoon refreshments. Those who take the provided transportation start to depart around 3 p.m.
Is someone available to greet my loved one when they arrive at the adult day care program by van?
Yes, the staff waits outside or right inside the door to greet the vans and/or families that drop off their loved ones. In the evening, the staff assists the van drivers.
What is the adult day care admission process?
We usually suggest a tour for the family and/or their loved one. We offer two free visits so that the senior can experience our program firsthand. We provide transportation for these visits, and family members are encouraged to come along. There is a set of paperwork that needs to be completed, the most important of which is a Physician’s History and Physical form. This needs to be filled out prior to admission. To start the process or arrange a visit, contact us.
What is the cost for adult day care?
Our medical model is covered by Medicaid. The social model is $100 for full day and $60 for half day. EISEP grants can cover or assist with the cost, including transportation for Westchester residents. Please contact us for more information.
What rehabilitation services do you offer?
Wartburg offers physical, occupational, and speech therapies in a new state-of-the-art inpatient Rehabilitation Center in Westchester. Through our home care program, we can send a physical therapist to your home to help with recovery and pain management. We also have an Inpatient Rehabilitation Center.
What is caregiver support?
Wartburg offers caregivers the assistance and resources they need to make the best decisions at the right time. There are many new responsibilities to take on with caregiving – from insurance and legal issues to practical matters – and we’re here for you.
