Wartburg’s Jazz in June Returns
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – June 22, 2021 – Wartburg, an award-winning provider of comprehensive senior residential and healthcare services, celebrated a return to their annual Jazz in June fundraiser, on their campus– A Wartburg Celebration of Healthcare Heroes on June 17, 2021. The event was held on Wartburg’s meadow with nearly 200 guests and 48 sponsors. This year’s event featured local performers including Pretty for the People, a jazz ensemble made up of students and professors from SUNY Purchase, and the exciting LaChanze, a Mount Vernon native with award winning performances on Broadway and in films.
The celebration honored Wartburg and the hundreds of talented and diverse staff who put themselves on the front lines during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in this region. A memorial video was part of the program. “In years to come, we will look back on this time; and, while we will never forget the sorrow and the losses, we will have endured, and we will most certainly remember the heroics of the Wartburg staff,” said President Gentner.
Major sponsors for Jazz in June 2021 included Morrison Community Living, Consigli Construction, Michael & Cathleen Holden, PharmScript LLC, Ulrich J. (Rick) and Noreen Rosa, The Westchester Public Private Partnership for Aging Services, and Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services.
“It was such a fun evening – and terrific to see people return to the meadow,” said David J. Gentner, Ed.D., Wartburg president and CEO. “I also extend my deepest appreciation to LaChanze, our sponsors, and dedicated volunteers who made this year’s hybrid event such a success.”
“We could not be more thankful for the outpouring of support from the community through our Jazz in June gala,” said Rose Cappa-Rotunno, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Wartburg. “As our society ages at a historic rate and the number of those living with memory impairment increases each year, it is more important than ever to provide the quality of care and stimulating programs needed to ensure the oldest members of our community live their best life.”
