Wartburg Marks First COVID-19 Vaccinations Through State-Sponsored Program

MOUNT VERNON (March 4, 2021) – In the Fight Against COVID-19, Wartburg has Reached Another Milestone – its First State-Sponsored Vaccinations. Mr. Trevor Hall, a Licensed Practical Nurse and employee of Wartburg’s Nursing Home was the first to receive his first of two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine through state-sponsored program on Thursday.

It was late December when the first shipments of the vaccine arrived on the campus and were offered to all nursing home residents and one-third of the staff. To-date the organization has had very good participation rates. To the extent that New York now has made the vaccine available on an ongoing basis, Wartburg will continue to work with the staff to increase the numbers of those vaccinated.

The COVID-19 vaccine is dispensed at no cost and is not mandatory, although public health officials believe it is healthcare workers’ best defense against the deadly virus. “The fact that both the Federal and State governments prioritized nursing homes and adult care facilities helps us feel as if we matter, and the work we do matters…for the first time during this pandemic we are a priority,” said Dr. David J. Gentner, Wartburg’s President.

“I’ve worked at Wartburg for 20 years and I’m happy to be vaccinated in an effort to protect myself, my patients, and my family against the COVID-19 virus,” said Mr. Hall.
