SUMMARY:WARTBURG HOSTS LOCAL BOOK AND AUTHOR RECEPTION
DESCRIPTION:Mount Vernon\, NY July 17\, 2024 – Wartburg\, Westchester’s premier provider of comprehensive residential and healthcare services for seniors\, hosted 3 local authors at a Book and Author Reception held in the Berkemeier Living Center\, Wartburg’s new Alzheimer’s and Dementia care facility. Dr. Emily Bloom\, Victoria Brooking and Dr. Concetta M. Tomaino each spoke about their connection to Wartburg\, talked about their respective books\, read excerpts and answered questions to the assembled crowd. \n  \nDr. Emily Bloom\, a Sarah Lawrence College Public Humanities Fellow and faculty member\, is collaborating with Wartburg to connect undergraduates and seniors in a series of conversations about objects\, memories\, and the things that matter to us all.  Her book\, I Cannot Control Everything Forever is a memoir that explores the author’s journey towards and through motherhood; a path that has become laden with data and medical technology as they navigated the care of a child with special needs. “Even if this book is not about my time at Wartburg\, much of what I have learned here about care and humanity has infused the pages of this book. I am so proud to have Wartburg’s name appear on the dust jacket.” Said Dr. Bloom. \n  \nVictoria Brooking\, educator and former Pelham resident’s mother spent her final years at Wartburg. “It was wonderful to be part of this literary event\, launching the Berkemeier Living Center into its inaugural year.” She said.  Her book\, Garden of Forget me Nots\, is portrayal of her mother’s decline into the world of dementia and Alzheimer’s and her family’s story of loss\, hope and coming to terms with one’s mortality. \nFounder and Executive Director of the Institute of Music and Neurologic Function\, Dr. Concetta M. Tomaino\, also shared her book Music Has Power in Senior Wellness and Healthcare.  Dr. Tomaino\, a pioneer in the field of music therapy\, shares more than 40 years of clinical research experience in her book\, offering a comprehensive guide to music therapy for better\, more fulfilling caregiving across all senior health care settings. “It is always a pleasure to speak to others about music and health.  I’m especially grateful to be part of an organization that’s encourages shared learning and creativity.” said Dr. Tomaino. \nWartburg President\, David J. Gentner shared\,  “What a pleasure it was to meet three special authors and to learn more about their relationship with our organization.  The residents\, staff and those in attendance had a meaningful and fun experience.”  \n  \nAbout Wartburg \nNestled in Westchester County\, NY\, Wartburg stands apart with its holistic approach to senior living and healthcare. Unlike traditional retirement communities\, Wartburg offers a vibrant 34-acre campus where residents enjoy integrated services that extend well beyond typical care. Whether it’s independent living\, assisted living. rehabilitation\, or adult day care\, Wartburg’s continuum of care is designed to meet diverse needs with excellence. Their dedication to families extends beyond medical care\, providing robust caregiver support at every stage. Recognized as one of the “Best Nursing Homes in New York State” by U.S. News & World Report for a remarkable twelve years running\, Wartburg continues to set the standard in senior care\, fostering a community where well-being thrives. \nWebsite : www.wartburg.org \nFacebook : www.facebook.com/thewartburg \nTwitter : www.twitter.com/thewartburg \nInstagram: www.instagram.com/wartburgadultcare \nYouTube : www.youtube.com/wartburgny \nLinkedIn : https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-wartburg-adult-care-community/ \n\nDr. Concetta M. SUMMARY:February 23 - Author Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\n\n\n\nFor the first time\, Dr. Concetta Tomaino\, a pioneer in the field of music therapy. shares more than 40 years of clinical and research experience–not just with Music Therapists but also with healthcare leaders\, clinicians\, and direct care staff. The book\, Music has Power ® in Senior Wellness and Healthcare: Best Practices from Music Therapy is now available for sale. \nWith chapters on mental health and wellness\, dementia\, movement rehabilitation (for stroke and Parkinson’s disease) and speech rehabilitation (for aphasia) this comprehensive and friendly practice guide will help everyone on the team use music therapy best practices to provide better\, more fulfilling caregiving\, across all senior healthcare settings. \nWhile music activities are ever present in most care settings\, these activities don’t provide the therapeutic benefits that are possible with music therapy-informed interventions and programs. Today best practices from music therapy are transforming dementia care\, and have the potential to improve healthcare—and health—for older people\, whatever their needs\, wherever they receive care. \nDr. Concetta Tomaino is the Executive Director\, and co-founder (with renowned neurologist and author\, Oliver Sacks) of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF). Internationally known for her research in the clinical applications of music and neurologic rehabilitation\, Dr. Tomaino received the United Nations’ Music Therapists for Peace Award of Accomplishment\, and her work has been featured on 48 Hours\,60 Minutes\, and internationally on the BBC and CBC. Connie Tomaino is a visionary and leader in the field of music therapy\, and here she shares her vast knowledge and clinical experiences with the rest of us in this compelling book. From senior care facilities\, to drum circles\, rehabilitation\, and personal wellness\, Music Has Power provides an overview of best practices and the latest knowledge on the therapeutic potential of music. \nDr. Tomaino will present a brief overview and will sign books. Books will be available for sale at the book signing\, or you can purchase in advance at Amazon or using this link: \nMusic Has Power® in Senior Wellness and Healthcare | Jessica Kingsley Publishers – USA (jkp.com) \n\nLearn More
