Life Stories

James Williams

“Without my home care aides and the nurse who comes to check on me, I couldn’t function the way I want. I am truly blessed.

“Life is beautiful. I feel very good, very secure in my home with the help I receive. My aides come every day. They help me with the basics: cooking, cleaning, getting washed and dressed. We do go out from time and time. And the beautiful nurse comes in to check on me.

“I wasn’t always in this wheelchair. I had a swimming accident as a teenager that injured my spine. But I recovered enough to use crutches. I drove a taxi for 25 years, had a family. I had one daughter who passed away, but I have three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

“As I got older, it became more difficult for me to get around and I’ve been back in the chair for quite a few years now.

“But I have no complaints. If I leave this world tomorrow, I would say that my life has been good to me.”
